Bus Chaperones!
We need a few bus chaperones - for this week’s game, the Oct 22 game and the Oct 23 competition. Sign up here (and then scroll down to see game dates). All Chaperones must have a negative COVID test that is less than 24-hours old. Free tests are available (given by Test4Free) in multiple locations around Atlanta, including the Perimeter Mall Parking lot, that give results in 20 minutes. You can make an appointment here, or just show up.
Please Sign-up To Help At This Friday’s Game!
We need help with game prep, onsite stand and field assistance, and post-game unloading! Sign-up here. Many hands will make for light work; and we truly appreciate parents that can help in any way!

You can send them in anytime during the week with your band member; and ask them to drop them off at the band room. If it’s easier, you can order from our Amazon Wish List and have them delivered (FYI deliveries come to Paula Emde’s house and she’ll take them to school). Thank you to everyone that has donated!

September 25, 2021 Competition Recap: The Gathering
The band performed amazingly on Saturday! Despite the chaos of our departure from CHS and arrival to DCHS, The students performed their best show of the season! We won awards for Best in Class: Percussion and Best in Class: Band! I am so proud of the students’ hard work, dedication and the rewards they are reaping as a benefit! Thank you to those that drove last-minute carpools to Douglasville on Saturday after one of our buses was a no-show. (We literally could not have made it to the show without you!) And thank you to the parents that attended, chaperoned, assisted, hauled the trailer and cheered us on!

Go Bulldogs! Beat Eagles Landing!
We’re sad that the band wasn’t able to join the Football team for tomorrow night’s replacement game (quickly scheduled when KIPP cancelled our 9/2 game). Short notice, plus the many logistical needs was a deal killer.
Please Help at the Games!
We need more help at the Sept 10 Game: pre-game loading, field crew, and post-game unloading. Please sign-up here to pitch in and help - and see the band perform, too. If you can’t be there, and you’ll be curbside for pick-up after the game, come help us unload! The quicker we unload after a game, the quicker everyone can leave! Thank you to everyone that has helped so far!
Shout Out!
Kudos to parents Joy Hatcher and Scott Blanck for volunteering to pull the Band Trailer for away games!
Thanks to parent Brandy Roatsey for volunteering to take on Grant Writing!
Thanks to parent Deneen Moore for rebuilding our First Aid Kit and donating the new contents!
Thanks to new Uniform Chairs Lori Thompson and Jasmine Garrido who have now fit the entire band in record time.
Thanks to all the parents that have served meals before games, hauled equipment and water to the stadium and helped during games. Without their support, the band couldn’t play!
Thank you to all the parents that have sent in snacks and water! Keep them coming! We appreciate each donation, and nothing goes to waste.
and continued thanks to veteran committee chairs Elise Douglas (Hospitality) and Erik McDonald (Field) for making things happen!
Time to Raise Some Money!
We’re working with Snap Raise to run a month-long fundraiser to collect funds for the Band Program, scheduled to run Sept 15 until October 13. Be on the lookout for more info, and a parent letter.
During practice on September 9, a representative from Snap Raise will visit the band (outside on the field), explain the program and ask each band member to download the Snap Raise app, create a profile page and upload (to secure server) the email addresses for 20 contacts that they think would be willing to give at least $20. They do not keep the email addresses or use them for other purposes; we will not be asked to “opt in” for them to keep our info. 80% of funds raised will be ours - and will go to offset the expense of the new sound system purchased ($4,000), annual instrument repair ($3,000+), build our reserves for future expenses (trailer repair, uniform replacement, etc), and allow us more flexibility in offering future marching band dues scholarships.
The company running the fundraiser (Snap Raise) keeps 20%. While this is not ideal, 20% is less overhead and means more money in our hands than selling items where we only keep 50% of sales (fruit, wrapping paper, candles, sheets, etc.), plus we don’t need a bunch of volunteers to run this, handle inventory, sales or orders. Campaign will run for 28 days, ending on October 13. Questions? Check out the Snap Raise FAQ page for parents (supporters) or the FAQ page for participants or contact Paula Emde at paulaemde@yahoo.com

July 24
Good Morning Chamblee Band community!
Thank you so much for your work this week! Working with these students is so rewarding and just plain fun! The students have worked so hard this week and it paid off!
To give you an overview:
We learned 26 pages of drill (the entire first movement [song])
We learned and memorized the first movement
We learned flag basics and choreography for the first and second movement
We learned rifle basics and choreography for the first movement
We learned and (mostly) memorized the second movement.
We learned horn movements.
We learned body work and choreography
Because we did not get to perform our band camp show with drill for parents and friends as planned, you are all encouraged to come to our first football game on August 19, 2021 at North Dekalb Stadium to see the show for yourself. Until then, join our Facebook page and follow us on Instagram (@cchsbands) to see pictures and videos!
I am so proud of how hard the students worked this week and I am so excited for where our potential lies!
Video of yesterday's performance recorded early in the day, before the rain storm, is on our Facebook page.
Thank you,
Colleen Marin
Chamblee Charter High School
Band Director

Quick Reminders: Performance, Parking, Shoes ... and a construction alert!
Performance Tonight at 6pm
The Marching Band is thrilled to be performing the show tonight at 6:00pm on the Practice Field. Bring a chair (and some bug spray) and see what we've learned this week. Friends and families are all welcome! It's been a long, hot, humid week, but tons of progress has been made.
Parking
Parking is available in both the large school lot along Pierce Drive (near the gym entrance) and along Mendenhall Road (near the tennis courts and baseball field). Please only use legal spaces along Mendenhall and do not block driveways.
Uniforms and Marching Shoes
Shoe orders need to be placed! Order and pay here. If you haven't already ordered shoes, please do so by July 29, so we can place a bulk order. A few second-hand shoes are available on a first-come, first-served basis, contact Paula Emde if you want to reserve one. We've begun fitting uniforms. If your band student wasn't fitted by the end of band camp, they'll be fitted the first two weeks of practices (Aug 2-13)
Construction Alert!
(Anyone who did an early drop-off this morning already knows, but...) Pierce Drive at Chamblee Dunwoody is blocked due to construction. To access the large school lot, enter Pierce Drive from Peachtree Boulevard near the Office Depot.
Thank you!
July 21
Quick Note: Marching Band Camp is going well! Please plan to come at 6:00pm on Friday to see the show on the practice field! Bring a chair or a blanket to sit on.
Time to Order Marching Band Shoes!
Each member will need a pair of marching band shoes. We’ll order them in bulk to save money, but need to place the order by late next week.
You can buy new shoes (see link below), or we have about 45 pair of “pre-owned” shoes available for $5/each. Available sizes of these “pre-owned” are here on the website.
Band members will be fitted for their uniforms tomorrow and/or Friday. As they’re being fitted, they can try on a pair of “pre-owned” shoes, if they prefer.
Order New Shoes Here on this Google Form - orders must be made by July 29 (after July 29, price of shipping individual shoes goes up)
Pay for New Shoes by credit card on this page. You can also pay by cash or check (send it with your band member and they can put it in the black drop box in the band room)
Looking Ahead…..
